I have always wanted to incorporate my love for food with words. Moms in the Know has given me the opportunity to fill this page with wonderful hints, and tips for fresh and delicious meals. You can think of it as your “Dear Abby” for anything that happens in the kitchen. I will be here for any questions or topics you might need to know.
I burnt bacon for the first time when I was 7 years old. Not only have I learned a lot since then, I am also able to see over the stove now. My professional training started at the Western Culinary School in Portland OR. I later learned about a chef in New York that was turning the restaurant scene on its head. He had just received 4 stars from the New York Times and held the highest ratings ever in the Zagats Restaurant Guide. I packed up and left Portland to work with David Bouley and never looked back. For the last 16 years I have had the pleasure of working with some of he worlds most celebrated chefs in Italy, San Francisco, and New York. I now own la Cuisine Personal Chef Service and The Fork and Spoon Kitchen Studio. Being able to cook for families and to teach people that cooking isn’t as intimidating as we might think is the perfect blending of a craft that I love.
Here are my top ten cooking tips for seven days a week:
1. Always keep your preparation simple.
2. Fewer pots used means more time for the family.
3. Your children’s eating habits will change the more they understand about food.
4. Keep your seasoning simple.
5. A new vegetable a day keeps the boredom away.
6. Experimenting with new food choices can be very rewarding.
7. Make a little extra for the freezer, or for lunch.
8. Picking something your child can help with means less work and more interest.
9. It’s ok to use 20/80. 20% premade and 80% fresh. No matter how much time you don’t have, add something to make it “your own.” The satisfaction you get is so rewarding.
10. Lastly. Do not make cooking a chore, and cook what you love.
